remove carbon from the air Brookfield
- Location: Brookfield, Massachusetts, United States
It is essential to remove carbon from the air to combat global warming. Methods like reforestation and afforestation involve planting trees to absorb CO2. But they are vulnerable to forest fires. Carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology captures CO2 from industrial sources and stores it underground. Soil carbon sequestration practices, such as no-till farming, can store more carbon in the ground. Direct air capture (DAC) technologies remove CO2 directly from the air, for storage underground. Enhanced rock weathering and ocean alkalinity enhancement may be able to remove very large amounts of CO2, more cheaply than DAC, but their effects are hard to measure. Bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS) grows biomass to burn for energy while capturing and storing the emitted CO2. Together, these approaches, alongside reducing emissions, can help address climate change.
